How To Water Ski on Two Skis

Waterskiing is a really fun and exhilarating sport. Many people are drawn to waterskiing because it gives them a high unlike anything else. It is similar to skiing in the sense that you also use two skis to maneuver yourself but instead of over snow. Here, the skier is pulled by a motorboat or a cable over a lake or the ocean. There are two types of skis: the slalom or the single ski and the double skis.

It is not easy to master the art of skiing on a slalom. That is why it is highly recommended that beginners start out with double skis before even attempting to start going on one ski. But for those of use who are complete idiots when it comes to skiing, how do we go about water skiing on two skis?

First, let’s get the preliminaries settled. A novice water skier, even if he learns on the easier double ski, needs to instruct the driver on how to drive the boat. It is important that he knows how slow or fast the skier wants to go, what to avoid, whether to make turns or not and similar issues affecting the way he will take control of the boat. Because the safety of the skier is partly in the hands of the driver, these instructions are very important.

You must also procure for yourself a life jacket for use when you are skiing. This jacket must be Coast Guard Approved. When you fall off, this is the only thing that will save you. You will be so tired and wiped out from skiing that even strong swimmers are in danger of drowning if they do not wear life jackets.

When your life vest is on and you have already talked to the boat driver, it is finally time to go skiing! One important aspect of skiing is that you wear the proper skis. These skis must have bindings that are tight enough so that they can secure your foot on the ski snugly. When putting your skis on as a beginner, you may ask the assistance of someone while you are on the boat's platform. More advanced skiers put their skis on in the water.

Once you have both skis on, grip the handle of the rope which is attached to the boat. In the water, you must be in a relaxed, floating position. It is not so important to be aligned with the boat at this point as the force of the boat and the tug of the rope will align you with the boat naturally.

When rope is taut, the boat driver will keep the boat in a neutral position and speed until the skier is ready to start skiing. The skier should fully bend his body and extend his arms so that the skis are between the skier and the boat. The rope must be between the skis. With your head up and with your eyes on the boat, yet with your body curled up like a ball, you can signal the driver to start moving and pulling you along.

Ideally, the driver should pull you slowly and gradually. If he pulls too abruptly or jerks the rope, it could slip out of your hand and cause you to fall. Do not attempt to stand up immediately as this will make you fall right away. Wait for the right time, which is usually a few seconds after the boat starts going. Then you can push up and stand up.

Wasn't that easy? Now you know how to water ski on two skis!
