Wakeboarding Tricks
Wakeboarding Tricks
Wakeboarding is such a fun and exciting sport. It combines the thrill that one associates with skiing, water sports and extreme sports. In order to wakeboard, one must use a board shaped like a broad water ski. And as with water skiing, you will also need a ski or wakeboard boat to tow you along as well as a rope to hold on to, that is attached to the motor boat. Make sure you are equipped with protective gear such as life vests and rash guards. Do not use any lose clothing, as you might find yourself without shorts after the boat pulls you off at an accelerated speed.
In order to engage in wakeboard tricks, it might be a wise idea to procure a wakeboarding DVD or watch wakeboarders with scrutiny, so that you can get an idea of how these tricks are supposed to be executed. Wakeboarding tricks are divided into three major levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. The beginner wakeboard tricks that one can do on a wakeboard are the progressive toe side edge, the progressive heel side edge, wake jump variations, ride switching, one-eighty degree turns, the toe side-front side grab, the heel side mute, the butterslide, the heel side front side three hundred sixty-degree, the back roll, the method grab, the surf carve and the ollie backslide. Believe it or not these are considered the easy wakeboard tricks!
As for the intermediate wakeboarding tricks, there is the tantrum, the heelside off-axis three sixty, the heelsie five-fort, the roll to revert, the indy backside one-eighty, the scarecrow, the back roll, and the toeside front side five forty. When you have reached that level of being able to do intermediate wake boarding tricks with ease, you can try out the advanced wake boarding tricks such as the tantrum to blind, the whirlybird, the front flip, the elephant, the crow mobe, the heelside mobe and the wrapped KGB.
Here are some important terms and definitions that you must learn before even learning the actual tricks. Surface tricks refer to tricks that are done simply on the water, grabs refer to the different places where a wake boarder can grab the board while in the air, spins are tricks that are done when the rider rotates his body and the board in the air. Inverts or flips are tricks done wherein the rider goes upside down. Raley-based tricks are based on the Raley. Examples of these are the Hoochie Glides and the S-bends. Handle-pass inverts are done when the rider combines an invert or flip with a spin requiring a handle pass. Do not panic if you cannot keep track of all the confusing terms and wakeboarding “lingo”. You will get the hang of using them as time goes by.
One tip that experts always recommend is learning and perfecting the progressive edge. This skill is going to be challenging at first and it might take awhile for you to learn and perfect. However, it will be of great benefit to you because almost every trick in the wake boarding book uses the progressive edge. Do not forget to use common sense and be extremely patient in learning your wakeboard trick. Do not skip from beginner to advanced just because all your other friends are doing so. You might injure yourself and risk never being able to wakeboard again
